The Idea
Linda Isgrove first proposed bringing a farmers’ market to Moseley, encouraging her husband David to help make it happen. At the time, many shopkeepers were sceptical. The village centre was struggling. A market felt risky. But the idea didn’t go away.
2000
The First Market
Launched during the Moseley Festival as a five-month trial, the first market began in August with just 12 stalls. It worked. By the end of the trial, the number had grown — and so had the crowds.
2002
Resilience
Foot-and-mouth disease forced a temporary closure. The market returned — stronger, and with renewed community support.
2004
First Major Recognition
With 36 stalls, Moseley Farmers’ Market won the Birmingham Post Market Masters’ Award for the best farmers’ market in the West Midlands. For the first time, the market made a surplus — reinvested back into the community.

2006
Regional Favourite
Named Country Life Magazine’s Best Farmers’ Market in the Midlands. The market had grown to 40 stalls and was attracting thousands each month.
2008
A Community Interest Company
The market formally became a Community Interest Company (CIC), ensuring it would always operate for community benefit. From this point forward, any surplus would be reinvested locally.
2009
Best Farmers’ Market in the UK
Awarded National Urban Farmers’ Market of the Year by FARMA (now the Farm Retail Association). The first of what would become four national titles.

2012
National Title — Again
Moseley became the first farmers’ market in the UK to win the national award twice. By now, the market was welcoming thousands of visitors and hosting over 50 stalls each month.
